Aqua Fit Drop-in Class Descriptions

Aqua-Advanced
This is a high intensity fitness class held in the shallow end of the lap pool. The class is a mix of strength and cardio moves done to pumped up music followed by a satisfying stretch for all your major muscle groups. Equipment such as noodles, exercise buoys, and paddles are used during most of the classes.

Mon/Wed/Fri 8:35-9:30am

Aqua-Light
This is a light to moderate intensity fitness class held in the shallow end of the lap pool. There will be little or no jumping during this class which covers a variety of strength, flexibility and endurance exercises. This class is perfect for people getting started in water fitness or for those who are pregnant.

Mon/Wed/Fri 9:40 to 10:25am

Morning Deep Water
This is a moderate to high intensity fitness class held in the deep end of the lap pool. Participants usually wear a “fitness belt” to provide floatation while they are in the deep water. The class is great because there is no impact and along with a complete cardio training, it provides an exceptional workout for your abdominal and back muscles.

Aquatic Exercise Therapy
Aqua-therapy will benefit men and women who would like to use the water to strengthen injured muscles or exercise weak, arthritic joints. It is a mild exercise program led by a qualified and experienced instructor. The program is excellent for people with a long term disability and it is a good way to build your strength before or after surgery. With 5 classes per week you can choose to attend as many or as few as you want. Referral by a Doctor or physiotherapist required.

Held in the shallow water leisure pool, this is a good cardio workout and great strengthening for all of your muscle groups.

Get Active Recreation Pass
The Get Active Recreation Pass is a special introductory 1 month pass to the fitness gym and pool at the Recreation Centre. It is intended for individuals who have NEVER had a swim or fitness room pass through Recreation Services. If you are a new resident to Greater Vernon or if you still don’t know where the Recreation Centre is located....we would like to meet you! Here is your oppportunity to get 20% more active and try us out!

The Get Active Recreation Pass

Programs for Older Adults

Osteofit 1
This class is designed to offer an accessible exercise and education program for men and women with osteoporosis. The class increases physical strength, balance and reduces the risk of fracture. Relaxation strategies will also be taught by Laurie, with a view to reducing chronic pain.

Osteofit for Life
Want to improve your posture, balance and strength? Join Laurie in this fun, simple, gentle fitness class. Easy aerobic routines warm you up before concentrating on core strength and postural exercises. Exercise bands, tubes & hand weights are used in this light to moderate intensity class intended for the older adult and graduates of Osteofit 1.

Smart Fit - Drop in Program
This is the best fitness program for older adults offered in our area. Improve your cardiovascular endurance, your balance and your strength. Relax and stretch at the end of the class. Current participants claim this is the most effective and safest fitness class they have ever attended. It is held on a drop in basis in order to accommodate your changing schedule and busy life! Personal Orientations
If you are just starting out or are looking to step up your exercise program we can help! Our qualified fitness instructor will work one on one with you to help you advance or to teach you the basics.

Adult: 2 sessions for $60, includes two 1 hr. sessions
Youth: 1 session for $40, includes one 1 hr orientation and a 1 month Get Active Pass
(13-16 yrs)

Group Weight Room Orientations:
Get a tour of the weight room and understand how to use the equipment properly to enhance your workout.
Three different dates to choose from.
